The Indian Air Force is set to conduct two major air exercises in the western sector next month, sending shockwaves across the border in Pakistan. The first exercise, Veer Guardian 26, is a bilateral India-Japan air-to-air combat training exercise that will see the participation of Japanese fighter jets on Indian territory for the first time. This exercise is scheduled to take place from September 9 to 21 and will be a significant test of India's military capabilities.

The second exercise, Tarang Shakti 2026, is a premier multi-national exercise that will see the participation of around eight countries, including the United States. This exercise is slated to take place from September 26 to October 12 and will be a major display of military might. The location of the exercises, Jodhpur airbase, is strategically significant, being one of the IAF's most critical bases facing the western neighbor.

The Jodhpur airbase has a rich history, having been the location of the IAF's combat operations during the 1965 and 1971 wars. Hosting a Japanese fighter deployment and then, several weeks later, a fifth-generation American jet at the same base practically on the doorstep of Pakistan is sure to be viewed in Islamabad as more than just routine training.
