India and Belgium Strengthen Defence Ties

In a significant move, India and Belgium have decided to expand their defence ties, with both countries signing several pacts to boost their partnership. The decision was taken during talks between Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and his Belgian counterpart Theo Francken, which saw both sides reviewing the entire spectrum of defence and industrial cooperation.

The talks between Singh and Francken were held ahead of wide-ranging discussions between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Belgian counterpart Bart De Wever. The defence ministerial dialogue was a key aspect of the visit, with both sides agreeing to expand engagement through training and capacity building initiatives.

One of the key agreements signed between the two countries is a defence framework pact, which will facilitate joint manufacturing of military hardware. The pact is part of a broader aim to further bolster the strategic partnership between India and Belgium.
